“The Three Sections of the Shema

1:1. [The Torah requires us] to recite the Shema twice daily, once in the evening and once in the morning as it says, “[And these words which I command you today . . . and you should speak them . . . when you lie down and when you get up” (Devarim 6:7)—meaning, when people usually go to sleep—which is at night, and when people usually get up—which is in the morning.


1:2. What do we recite? The following three paragraphs:
